Just a quick note regarding a couple of questions/issues: Safety at Sea SER 4.3.3, what constitutes valid ORR/ORR-EZ certificates, and New ORR certificate portal
Safety articles: Per SER requirement 4.3.3 – Safety at Sea: Currently there are five safety articles posted. The Safety Committee continues to review and edit additional safety topics. There will be another batch of five topics posted in the near future and an additional five topics posted sometime after that but in plenty of time to accommodate the June 15, 2017 entry deadline.
And with respect to ORR and ORR-EZ validity, all ORR and ORR-EZ certificates must be signed by the owner or Person-in-Charge in order to be deemed valid. Both the ORR Rules (3.01) and the ORR-EZ rules (III E) require your signature. We have asked ORA/U.S. Sailing if they could work out a system in which the owner/PIC could electronically sign them prior to sending them to us, but that will be a future convenience and is not available this year. For the ORR boats, in addition, a current copy of the ORR Rules must be on your boat for the Race. While ORR-EZ rules are silent on this, I’d encourage every ORR-EZ boat to keep a copy of the ORR-EZ rules on board during the race as well.
I’ve also been advised that some are having troubles applying for a new ORR certificate. While you can apply for a new certificate and renew your 2016 certificate through the link on the Official Page tab of the Bell’s Beer Bayview Mackinac Race website, if you’re having troubles, try this link: http://www.ussailing.org/racing/offshore-big-boats/request-for-rating/ Again, this is for new ORR certificates. The ORR-EZ application link is working well.
As of this morning (2/27/17), we have 96 boats registered! Thanks for your early registration and if you haven’t registered yet, don’t forget to do so at your earliest convenience-
