Happy July!

We are only nine days away from the 100th consecutive start of the Bayview Mackinac Race!

A few race updates are listed below.

As my predecessor, Kevin Thomas, would say, “Read the NOR and SIs!” I cannot stress this enough. These documents underwent many changes from last year. Please get in touch with me with any questions!

Post Race Dockage

Post-race dockage assignments have been made and will be posted to the Owner’s landing page along with a map of the harbor to which they have been assigned tomorrow, Friday, July 12. Please read the Sailing Instructions Section 12 about Post Race Dockage.

Remember: All boats must follow pre-assigned dockage assignments. If a boat intends to dock in a different location or zone than what was assigned, it will be subject to disqualification, and/or the competitor will be denied an invitation to participate in future races. The Harbor Committee has been instructed to alert the Race Chair if this occurs.

Class Assignments

Class assignments have been made and will be posted to the official race website tomorrow, Friday, July 12.

We are still waiting on just under 30 ORC rating certificates, but US Sailing has assured us we will receive them soon. If you have any questions about this, please don’t hesitate to contact me at mackchair2024@byc.com.

Com. Maurice G. Declercq Bayview Mackinac Race Yacht Club Challenge

Many of you have already entered the Yacht Club Challenge. Now that the division and class assignments have been made, we will review the current entries and let you know if your team needs adjustments.

If you haven’t entered the Yacht Club Challenge already, I encourage you to do so. Teams will be scored based on overall finishes. The team with the lowest points will win. Four flags will be awarded to the winning team: One for each boat and a flag for the winning yacht club to display at their club.

Teams will consist of three boats from the same yacht club.

You can enter on the website, www.bycmack.com, under the Competitors and Registration headers. The entry deadline is Thursday, July 17th, at midnight.

Crew List

Boat owners, there are still 42 boats with incomplete crew information. Please update the number of your crew and ensure that all of your crew is added so they can complete their required waivers. Each crew member must have a unique email address. You cannot register before the race until every member of your crew has signed their waivers.

Crew, please update your emergency contact information and “sign” the required waivers. Please do not use someone who is also racing or yourself as your emergency contact.

The following bears repeating, as it is important.

Port Huron Dockage

The City of Port Huron is providing dockage for competitors in the Black River before the start of the race. Per Section 15 of the NOR, boats are asked not to arrive before July 17 or after 1800 hours on July 19. When entering the Black River, you are asked to contact the Port Huron Harbormaster on Channel 9 for instructions.

With the large number of entries this year, boats may be rafted up to five deep. Be prepared for this; it’s on a first-come, first-served basis for power.

Please refer to Sailing Instructions Section 4 for important PreRace Dockage and Communication.

Virtual Skipper’s Packet

We are regularly updating the Virtual Skipper’s Packet, which can be found under Competitors and Official Notice Board on the race website. The harbor maps and a general information sheet have been added. Please check this area often.

Finish Line Sound Signal/Cell Phone Provider

The boat owner will receive a text upon finishing. This will not be used for official scoring purposes, nor does it change the provision for requiring a photo of the boat’s GPS showing the time and location demonstrating compliance with crossing the finish in the Sailing Instructions.

To receive a text, please access your owner’s record page and click “Update Entry Profile.” Next to “Mobile Phone,” you will see a new box to select your “Mobile Carrier.”

Island Awards Party

As we have historically done, each boat owner will receive wristbands for double the number of their crew to enter the Island Awards Party at Skipper Check-in after the race. These wristbands are required for those 21 and over to enter.

If additional wristbands are needed, they can be purchased through Mission Point Resort using the link below. There is a discount for pre-ordering.

Click on the link below and scroll down to Experiences. Please use access code BYC2024.

A special thanks to Deep Eddy Vodka, Detroit Liquid Ventures (Old Head Beer and Blue Dot Farm & Vineyard), Casamigos, Goat Yard Marine, Aperol, Detroit City Distillery, Mission Point Resort, Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry, Aitken-Ormond Insurance, Frankenmuth Insurance, MicroCODE, Marx Layne, High Winds Graphix and the Bayview Mackinac Race Foundation; without their support, we could not have a regatta of this caliber. We hope you patronize their products or services!

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions.
