Days until the start of the 100th Race
We are racing!

June 20, 2024

Happy Summer!

We are only 30 days away from the start of the 100th Bayview Mackinac Race! With that in mind, I have a few items to share with you.

Crew List

Boat owners, there are over 190 boats with incomplete crew information. Please update the number of your crew and ensure that all of your crew is added so they can complete their required waivers. Each crew member must have a unique email address. You cannot register before the race until all of your crew have signed their waivers.

Crew, please update your emergency contact information and “sign” the required waivers. Please do not use someone who is also racing or yourself as your emergency contact.

ORC Rating Certificates/US Sailing Membership

Boat owners, to receive an ORC rating certificate, you must be a member of US Sailing. Please check your US Sailing membership and ensure everything is up to date for the next month (minimum). To check your membership status, go to the following link:

The quickest way to renew your membership is to use this link:

If you have any problems, please call Deb Rainey, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at 401-342-7901 for assistance with your membership.

ORC Rating Certificates

Boat owners, please submit any missing data as requested by US Sailing and review your certificate as soon as possible if it is not finalized.

When you receive your certificate from US Sailing, please confirm its accuracy. Then log on to the Bayview Mackinac Race website owner portal and update your boat information with the 2024 ORC reference number at the bottom left side of each certificate page. It consists of 10 alphanumeric characters. Example: 045600023TT

If you plan to sail the BYCMACK with a different configuration (sails/crew weight) than the other races you participate in before July 20 using an ORC rating, you must submit your ORC Amended Certificate (Test Cert) to and before July 1st.

Port Huron Dockage

The City of Port Huron is providing dockage for competitors in the Black River before the start of the race. Per Section 15 of the NOR, boats are asked not to arrive before July 17 or after 1800 hours on July 19. When entering the Black River, you are asked to contact the Port Huron Harbormaster on Channel 9 for instructions.

With the large number of entries this year, boats may be rafted up to five deep. Be prepared for this; it’s on a first-come, first-served basis for power.

Official Race Documents

The Sailing Instructions will be posted on the race website’s Official Notice Board before July 1st. When they are posted, competitors will be notified.

I encourage you to review the SERs (Safety Equipment Requirements) and the Safety Tips and Requirements video, which can be found on the Official Notice Board under Safety & Other Docs. The Crew Overboard Recovery Drill Certificate can also be found there. If you have any questions regarding race safety, please email us at

Corinthian Designation

Returning this year will be the Main Sheet Trophy awarded to the top Corinthian boat in the 2024 Bayview Mackinac Race. The trophy will go to the boat with a crew of amateur sailors with the best corrected time in seconds per mile.

To qualify, each crew member on a boat must have an ISAF ID and be a Category 1 (Amateur) sailor. All boats meeting this requirement will be automatically eligible for this trophy.

Each crew member must register with World Sailing (formerly ISAF) at Once on their website, there is a selection at the bottom right of the page: “Register Sailor.” This is a free service offered by World Sailing. Once they register, they need to apply for a Sailor Classification. This all takes about 5 minutes.

Once they receive their World Sailing/ISAF ID number, each crew member must include it in their crew profile on the BYCMACK website for the boat to qualify for the Corinthian Trophy.

Our website interfaces with World Sailing’s database to verify that all crew members are amateur.

Please note that a boat’s Corinthian status isn’t held over yearly as crew members change. World Sailing sailor classification lasts for two years. Sailors will be contacted by World Sailing via e-mail 30 days before their classification expires to renew.

Virtual Skipper’s Packet

We regularly update the Virtual Skipper’s Packet, which can be found under Competitors and Official Notice Board on the race website. Many of you have requested the Dry Ice contact information, which you will find there. Other important items will also be added here, so please check this area often.

Finish Line Sound Signal/Cell Phone Provider

The boat owner will receive a text upon finishing. This will not be used for official scoring purposes, nor does it change the provision for requiring a photo of the boat’s GPS showing the time and location demonstrating compliance with crossing the finish in the Sailing Instructions.

To receive a text, please access your owner’s record page and click “Update Entry Profile.” Next to “Mobile Phone,” you will see a new box to select your “Mobile Carrier.”

Island Awards Party

As we have historically done, each boat owner will receive wristbands for double the number of their crew to enter the Island Awards Party at Skipper Check-in after the race. These wristbands are required for those 21 and over to enter.

If additional wristbands are needed, they can be purchased through Mission Point Resort using the link below. There is a discount for pre-ordering.

Click on the link below and scroll down to Experiences. Please use access code BYC2024.

The Super Mac is back for 2024!

We have 24 entries in the 2024 Super Mac!

For those who have entered, post-race dockage is provided by the City of Port Huron in the Black River. When entering the Black River, you are asked to contact the Port Huron Harbormaster on Channel 9 for docking instructions. Please be prepared for rafting. Power will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Sailing Instructions will be posted by July 1st.

Mark your calendars! The 2025 SuperMac will start in Port Huron and finish in Chicago to celebrate 150 years of the Chicago Yacht Club!

On Island Crew Dinner ReservationsWe expect the island to be at capacity with a record number of boats participating. We also anticipate that restaurants will be very busy. I want to encourage those who typically do crew dinners on the island to secure reservations. Mission Point has some exceptional restaurants, and reservations are recommended.

A special thanks to Deep Eddy Vodka, Detroit Liquid Ventures (Old Head Beer and Blue Dot Farm & Vineyard), Casamigos, Goat Yard Marine, Aperol, Detroit City Distillery, Mission Point Resort, Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry, Aitken-Ormond Insurance, Frankenmuth Insurance, MicroCODE, Marx Layne, High Winds Graphix and the Bayview Mackinac Race Foundation; without their support, we could not have a regatta of this caliber. We hope you patronize their products or services!

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions.
